Estonian Theatre Festival DRAMA
Bi-annual festival showcases best Estonian productions from the last two years. There are 15 performances in the program in 2009. All the performances will be translated into English. Additional information can be found at www.draama2009.festival.ee. There are 1,4 million people living in Estonia and they manage to make around 1 million theatre visits per year, so there must be something about the theatre done in Estonia. Not that the popularity says much about the content. Seven of the fifteen performances chosen for the festival are based on Estonian authors’ texts covering topics from artists (in)capability to change the world to the old national ceremonies of South-Estonia. There will also be interpretations of classics like Gogol with puppets or Kafka in a gym and some modern authors like Reza and the Presnyakov Brothers. DRAMA is also a festival giving even more color and spirit to the anyway merry yet thoughtful university city of Tartu bringing together theatre people from all over Estonia and neighboring countries to watch the performances, take part in discussions and dance in a festival club as the Baltic Theatre Festival OurDRAMA, showing two performances from each of the three Baltic countries is held at the same time in Tartu.
